"In 2009 Good Shepherd was formed from the parishes of St. Anthony, St. Cecilia and Our Lady's. From the pain that came from the closing of these long-time deeply rooted parishes, Good Shepherd emerged as a vibrant faith community. In the words of the hymn--"There's a sweet, sweet spirit in this place"--a spirit of welcome and friendliness, a spirit of prayer and concern for our neighbors in need. We are intent on living out our mission "to make Christ more visible in our community and to make this parish a place where all who seek God can find a home."
We would love to have you join us in our journey of faith and services!
Fr. Deogratias Ssamba, A.J., Pastor
Good Shepherd Catholic Parish was established June 17, 2009 with the merger of St. Anthony Church, St. Cecilia Church and Church of Our Lady. Our first mass as a parish was celebrated on June 21, 2009.
MISSION STATEMENT
We, the parishioners of Good Shepherd Parish have passed our Catholic heritage from one generation to the next in the community of Portland since the early 1800's. Guided by the Holy Spirit we pledge to serve future generations of this community with the following missions:
- To embrace diversity within our community
- To be vital and vibrant centers of worship through our celebration of the sacraments--especially the Eucharist
- To provide opportunities for life-long religious education and formation
- To work with our neigboring churches and agencies to be a beacon of hope to those who suffer from the pervasive effects of poverty and injustice
- To be a place of welcome and celebration for both parishioners and neighbors
We believe everyone is called to ministry, through it we serve, befriend, and stand with others in Christ's name. Rooted in Christ, we walk in faith, act in hope, and live in love. Empowered by the gifts given to us by the Holy Spirit, we pledge to make Christ more visible in our community and to make this parish a place where all who seek God can find a home.
